Huancaya (Peru) -miniature waterfalls

Huancaya-miniature waterfalls

Huancaya, at 3581 meters, a district of the province of the region Yauyos in Lima, Peru, is located at 3554 m altitude belonging to Suni floor, is 290 km (Via central road) or 320 km (Via cañete) from Lima. It is located along the Cañete river where a beautiful emerald lakes where trout abound and birds are formed. The whole area is dominated by the beautiful river forming endless water lagoons

consecutive jumps.

Huancaya is at the center of an area that has been declared Landscape Reserve  forming Nor Yauyos-Cochas and is considered one of the most beautiful places of Peru. Its main attractions are the cascade Cabrachanca, Waterfalls and ponds Carhuayno, Laguna Huallhua, lagoon Chuchupasca which were described for the first time in the 80's on trip by reports Daniel López Mazzotti.

In the journey to Huancaya not speak of destinations, because elapse roads observing the landscape is something that makes a destination in itself. The range offered by its accidents, are yellowish dry, very green season in the rainy months. The cannons and terraces are unique. Gaps filled with birds, wetlands, forests, vast plains, herds of camels are perhaps the most attractive elements in the reserve.

After passing Vitis en route to Huancaya, is Piquecocha lagoon, where pairs of geese, herons and grebes are observed. Depending on the time of day, the sun is changing the color of this large body of water, sometimes in tones steel  or intense turquoise. The contemplation of this gap while the gentle lapping of the waves and listening to the voices of the birds is a highlight of our trip. You can fish for trout along the lines of sport fishing.

There is a beautiful pink masonry bridge that allows passage over the Cañete river, linking the town to the countryside in Huancaya. The bridge of two arches, perillones  and other ornaments, speak the importance of this settlement since the seventeenth century.

It is wonderful to observe the small waterfalls on slopes which makes the river in this part (where it is known as Warko), water divides, to obstacles of rocks, streams and small flows.

This is where the human dimension is recovered. If when you're in front of Niagara Falls or Iguazu, feels a tiny being, here becomes giant contemplates his kingdom. The numerous waterfalls that are observed simultaneously make us believe that we are giants. The water is very cold, so few dare to join them, but the contemplation of the panorama is sufficient reward for the journey
