Paracas textiles, woven masterpieces manual
Paracas was an important
pre-Columbian civilization of Ancient Peru, the period called Formative or
Early Horizon, which was developed on the peninsula of Paracas, province of
Pisco, Ica region, between 700 a. C. and 200 d. C. It is contemporary with the
Chavin culture that developed in northern Peru.
Most of the evidence
found in archaeological excavations undertaken in Cerro Colorado (
"Paracas-Caverns") and Warikayan ( "Paracas-Necropolis") by
Peruvian archaeologist Julio C. Tello and Toribio Mejia disciple Xesspe around
1920 .
Paracas made
high-quality textiles, wool and cotton, decorated ceramics and basketry
elaborate. They also performed cranial trepanning, whose aims are still being
discussed.
The Paracas culture is
the predecessor of the Nazca culture, which is recognized by the excellent
ceramics.
I present some works
that show the genius of the weavers of the Paracas culture.
Mantos complete, some
recovered from foreign countries and details or fragments. The photographs do
not show the quality or allow you to see the delicacy of the work, but are
indicators of the skill of this people.
