Most of the evidence found in archaeological excavations undertaken in Cerro Colorado ( "Paracas-Caverns") and Warikayan ( "Paracas-Necropolis") by Peruvian archaeologist Julio C. Tello and Toribio Mejia disciple Xesspe around 1920 .

Paracas made high-quality textiles, wool and cotton, decorated ceramics and basketry elaborate. They also performed cranial trepanning, whose aims are still being discussed.

The Paracas culture is the predecessor of the Nazca culture, which is recognized by the excellent ceramics.
